In the common tongue, it says: One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

The Nazgūl, by Ted Nasmith
The Nazgûl, Ringwraiths

The terrifying Nazgûl or Ringwraiths were once powerful kings and sorcerers among Men until they were tempted by the power of the Ring and damned to serve Sauron. Lord of the Nazgûl, the Witch King of Angmar was the chief lieutenant of Sauron the Dark Lord. Once a great king of old, the Witch King, like all the Nazgûl, was enslaved to the will of Sauron by his magical Ring of Power. In the physical realm the Witch King was little more than a spirit wrapped in black cloth, a fearful presence, but when seen by Frodo in the spirit world, the specter's true guise was revealed.

Ringwraiths wear black hooded cloaks and travel on horseback or Fell Beasts.

As with others corrupted by the ring, Ringwraiths are invisible to normal eyes and can only be seen because of their clothing.

Ringwraiths have a keen sense of smell and extremely poor vision.

The cruelty of Nazgûl and the Fell Beasts is too me, truly horrific. When they swoop down on those Gondorian soldiers in the Battle at Pelennor fields, or grab those soldiers on the top tiers of Minas Tirith and drop them to their deaths, (ROTK) it makes my heart break at such evil. Their screech is equally as frightening as their looks and tactics. In the films, they are deliciously terrifying and the effect of all those yards of black cloth coupled with that screech is some pretty scary stuff! They are more terrifying to me than Jason or Freddy or that Myers guy.
